Neuro Speech and Language Therapy

Speech and Language Therapy(SLT) is responsible for the assessment and management of difficulties with communication and swallowing.

SLTs help with safe eating and drinking if an individual has problems swallowing. This may involve changing the consistency of what is eaten or by providing exercises or strategies to help.

Improve health and wellbeing

For some patients eating and drinking is not possible and SLTs work on helping them swallow their saliva as easily as possible, which may also help with tracheostomy weaning.

Our Speech and Language Therapists work with people with a range of speech, communication and swallowing difficulties as a result of neurological illness or injury, such as Stroke, Head Injury, Multiple Sclerosis or Parkinson’s disease. These may include:

Aphasia (the inability to understand spoken or written words, or to use speech, writing or gesture to communicate)
Cognitive communication disorder (impaired use of language skills to communicate effectively)
Dysarthria (the inability to use the muscles involved in speech and voice production effectively)
Dysphagia (the inability to eat, drink and swallow safely and effectively)

Neuro physiotherapy is a specialist branch of physiotherapy dedicated to improving the function of patients who have suffered physical impairment caused by neurological conditions.

Neuro Occupational Therapy

Neurological rehabilitation under the care of an occupational therapist will consist of supporting and facilitating an individual to be as independent as possible in their daily life.
